Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched its cloud services in New Zealand, establishing the AWS Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Region. The move aims to streamline local access to cloud computing for applications, data storage, and compliance with regional requirements. The initiative is expected to create over 1,000 full-time jobs annually and contribute NZ$10.8 billion to the country's GDP, though Amazon has not specified a timeline for the investment.

New Zealand's government, actively courting foreign investment to counter last year's recession, has adjusted planning laws and visa policies to attract global businesses. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon noted that construction costs in New Zealand are 20% higher than in Australia, underscoring the need for regulatory reforms. Local enterprises like Xero and Kiwibank will benefit from reduced latency and faster deployment of cloud-based solutions.
